I've heard on several occasions that directories are actually bad for you site is that true?

The whole thing about directories is not getting the links from them too fast. Google's algorithm seems to flag, and de-index, sites that build up backlinks too rapidly.

Yes, Directories are good because they will create a backlink for your site and it will help in getting your site up.

yes directories are good for backlinks we can use anchor text which is important foe seo
